Dodds Cycleway

Dodds Cycleway

The Dodds Cycleway goes from the city centre up along Park Road, Dogsthorpe Road, Welland Road, and then cuts under the A47 to Paston and Gunthorpe.

We understand that this route was supposed to have been treated by Peterborough City Council last year and that they are doing some more work this year.  As far as we can tell, the only work that has been done so far as that a few signs have been erected.

We would like the Burghley Road roundabout to be made cycle friendly so cyclists can cross from any direction to any direction.  We would also like the cycle lanes to be repainted as they are worn in places.  The barrier arrangement at Bluebell Avenue is so over engineered that it is a wonder that anybody can get through.

Bluebell Avenue barriers.

We have requested Peterborough City Council to consider these at a meeting that will be taking place on 23 September 2008.  Let's see what they do.

9 December 2008 - We have finally heard back from Peterborough City Council after waiting for several months for a response.  We did have to ask for a response which was disappointing but here it is.

"Improvements to the Primary Cycle Network for the 2008/09 financial year will intend to focus on the prioritised Dodds cycle route.

Improvements should include:

-       Refreshment of the cycle lanes along Park Rd / Dogsthorpe Rd

-       Refreshment of green anti-skid surfacing at junctions along Park Rd / Dogsthorpe Rd and Gunthorpe Ridings

-       Infrastructural improvement for cyclists crossing Paston Ridings

-       Improvement for cyclists across Bluebell Avenue

All works will follow the Peterborough Cycle Design Guidelines and should represent much improved, best practice conditions for cyclists on a key route in the City.

The aforementioned works should cost in the region of £59-74,000, however this figure cannot be confirmed until nearer the end of the project."

We are not sure if £59-74,000 is a lot of money in comparison to what other councils spend  so we are going to ask some other unitary authorities of the same size to see what their spend on cycle infrastructure is.
