Cycling on pavements

Cycling on pavements

Have you been stopped by the Police, a Street Warden, or shouted at by a member to the public for cycling on the pavement?

Lincoln Road in Millfield and Bridge Street are usually the hot spots for Police trying to catch cyclists using the pavements.  They clearly have not cycled along Lincoln Road themselves.

There are many places in Peterborough that could have been designed better.  Even on recently installed projects, the Council are making it more difficult for cyclists rather than making it easier.  A good example is Town Bridge.  This is not acceptable.  Cyclists should be able cycle safely without having to break the law.

We have asked Cambridgeshire Constabularly for details of their no cycling on pavements campaign under the Freedom of Information Act.

Cambridgeshire Constabularly have informed us that there have been four campaigns to stop cycling on pavements from September 2007 to August 2008 on Bridge Street and Lincoln Road.  48 Fixed Penalty Charges were issued to cyclists during the same period.

If you have had a bad experience either as a cyclist or a pedestrian we would like to hear from you.  Either contact via email or post your comments on our forum page.
