There are many example in and around Peterborough of pedestrian barriers on cycle routes. Very often these still have easy access either side and people divert onto the verge or mud either side. Many pedestrian barriers are unnecessarily installed in places that do not warrant them. This must stop and bollards should be used instead if need be. What we plan on doing is approaching the council with a list of pedestrian barriers that do not serve any real purpose or need to be redesigned to allow cycles to pass freely. There are other methods the Council can use to make the routes better. We are collating examples of barriers that fall into this category. For those that do serve a purpose we will be looking at whether this is the best solution for that particular site. We would like to hear from you on this subject and if you have any pictures to send us of bad examples that would be helpful. Latest news on the barrier campaign. Pictures have been taken of barrier locations that we think are badly engineered and should be redesigned with cycle bypasses, be replaced with bollards or simply removed. We would like to hear what you think though.
Bluebell Avenue, Dogsthorpe - A formal request has been submitted to the Peterborough City Council for the removal of the barriers on the cycleway. We understand the Council is holding a meeting on the 23 September 2008 to discuss this rouge at whole.
